For example, bitter orange can extract essential oils from the buds, leaves and fruits. The extraction methods of essential oils mainly include the following:
 
Steam Distillation：

Distillation is the most commonly used extraction method for essential oils and has been used for centuries.It is suitable for plants that will not be destroyed by heat. This extraction method is the simplest to operate and has a lower cost. At present, 95% of the essential oils on the market are extracted by distillation.
 
The specific method is to put fresh or dried aromatic plant materials (sawdust, flowers, leaves, etc.) into a distiller, heated from below to send steam to evaporate the essential oils of the plants.After the water vapor containing essential oils is collected and cooled by a tube, it will be cooled into a liquid, and then separated due to the difference in the specific gravity and density of water and essential oils.
 
Distillation is mostly used to extract plants with roots, stems, flowers and leaves.In the cooling process, the circulating water can be used multiple times, and some essential oils are more or less dissolved in the remaining water.

Cold press：

Add water in the process of pressing the peel, collect the juice, and separate the essential oils with a centrifuge.Most citrus essential oils, such as grapefruit and lemon, are extracted by this method.Most citrus essential oils cannot resist the heat of distillation. If distillation is used, its essential components will be destroyed during the extraction process. Therefore, the current extraction of peel essential oils is mostly machine cold pressing.
