Enfleurage:

Enfleurage is the oldest method of extracting essential oils.Generally speaking, petal oils are more commonly used in this method.Put a piece of glass on a wooden board, smear it with animal fat, and then cover with petals.In this way, the glass covered with petals is layered, and then placed under the sun, using the heat of the sun to release the essence of the petals and immerse them in the oil. During the extraction process, the petals should be replaced frequently or the glass should be rotated until the oil is saturated.Finally, it is treated with alcohol and stirred by a machine. After the alcohol evaporates, what is left is the aromatic essential oil.

This method is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and costly. Except for GRASSE in southern France, it has almost disappeared from the general commercial market.

Solvent extraction：

This is a commonly used extraction method for floral essential oils. It is used for essential oils that are more difficult to extract, or essential oils with low content or fear of high temperatures.Use alcohol, ether, liquid butane and other volatile solvents to repeatedly pour on the plant to be extracted, and then separate and analyze the solvent containing essential oils, and then distill the essential oils at low temperature.

Solvent extraction is the latest extraction method. Natural solvents are now used for extraction to avoid chemical residues in essential oils.The floral essential oils extracted by this method contain complete and precious ingredients and are very rich in content, but the distillation method lacks these ingredients.When purchasing essential oils, you can refer to comparisons.

CO2 extraction：

This extraction method started in 1980 and is one of the latest methods for extracting essential oils, and its instruments and equipment are very complicated.The carbon dioxide is pressurized to a semi-liquid and semi-gas state, the aromatic molecules of the plant are extracted, and then the pressure is changed to volatilize the gas, and the rest is the essential oil.The essential oil extracted by this method is called "CO2 essential oil".

The quality of CO2 essential oil is very good, because the essential oil extracted by this method is not affected by heat and will not damage the molecular structure of the essential oil itself. It is very close to the state in natural plants. Compared with the distillation method, the aroma is perfect.However, due to the high price, CO2 essential oils are not very popular.
